10 Steps to Your DIY Boudoir Session at Home

Have you decided to create your own DIY boudoir session at home?

Congratulations! This can be a very fun and empowering experience, but it can also be a little daunting if you're not sure where to start. That's why we've put together this handy guide with these ten steps.

#1. Plan Ahead

The first step is to decide what kind of look you want to go for. Do you want something sultry and seductive? Playful and fun? Classy and elegant? Once you have an idea of the overall look you are going for, you can start planning your wardrobe. Choose items that make you feel sexy and confident. If you need some inspiration, there are plenty of boudoir photography Pinterest boards that can help. The more prepared you are, the better your shoot will go!

#2. Gather Your Pieces of Equipment

You don't need a super high-end DSLR camera to take great photos, but you will need a tripod, remote shutter release, and some decent lighting. A reflector can also be helpful to bounce light into your subject's face. If you don't have all of this equipment, see if you can borrow it from a friend or rent it from a local camera shop.

If you have a smartphone, use portrait mode. This way you can have your beautiful face (and body) highlighted, rather than your background.

Take advantage of the timer feature and set your phone down so you can get in position for the photo. Play around with whatever features your phone or camera, until you find something that works for you!

#3.Create a Mood Board

Gather some inspiration by putting together a mood board of images that reflect the style and vibe you’re going for. This doesn’t have to be anything fancy – even just tearing out some pictures from a magazine can work. Once you have your images, take a look at them and see what elements they have in common. This will help you narrow down your style.

#4. Pick the Perfect Location

Where you shoot can be just as important as who you shoot with. Shooting in your own home feels more intimate and can make you feel more comfortable. This will make you feel more at ease and allows you to control your environment. If you’re looking for something with a more glamorous feel, consider renting a hotel room or Airbnb.

#5. Set Up Your Space

Find a place in your house or apartment that has good lighting and is relatively free of clutter. You might want to consider hanging some curtains or sheets to create a more intimate setting.

#7. Get Comfortable

Now that you have your location and poses all set, it’s time to get comfortable with the camera. If you’ve never done boudoir photography before, this can be a little nerve-wracking. But don't worry! Take some time to practice in front of the mirror or with a friend so that you can get used to being in front of the camera.

#8. Be Prepared on the Day of the Shoot

Get your hair and makeup done professionally or do it yourself if you feel confident. Again, think about what you want to wear and have your outfit and accessories ready to go. It’s also a good idea to eat something beforehand so you don’t feel lightheaded during the shoot.
